Obituary to Lizzie - (Prees Heath Laura)
Died 18th July 2006 Aged 14yrs

Lizzie was our first Weimaraner. We knew little about the breed but were about to be enlightened.

Bred by Linda & Alf Evans from Prees, Lizzie was bred from their wonderful bitch Lowry. We visited the litter several times before taking home our adorable bundle of joy…and she was a joy!!. She was the most wonderful puppy, intelligent, loving and utterly beautiful. As she got older she developed a wicked sense of humour and had us wrapped around her little paw. We were soon smitten by the breed and decided to have a litter from her, we were keen to keep a puppy from the litter for ourselves, after seeking advice we decided to use a lovely dog called Ch Varstock Voyager of Roxberg. This was a wonderful experience for us… to see Lizzie so happy with her new brood of eight puppies, she was in her element, and this was definitely her forte in life. We chose the puppy that was clever enough to scale the side of the whelping box to make her escape….this was to be Maisie.

It wasn’t all plain sailing; we had quite a scare one summer afternoon when we found that the litter and Mum had disappeared from their makeshift pen in the garden, luckily we soon spotted Lizzie, heading off across the field beside our house with a line of puppies trundling along behind her. She spent the rest of her life educating the youngsters in the art of how to escape and to go off on adventures….she gave us many a worry but they always returned a few hours later safe and sound, she never could understand what we were making such a fuss about.

Lizzie’s best friend was Eric our Border terrier who we had shortly after Lizzie to keep her company, they were like an old married couple, inseperable and adored each other. He was… of course, her servant and would spend hours grooming her.

Lizzie saw many a litter born in her 14 yrs and her eyes would light up when she heard those contented puppy snuffles & groans coming from the whelping box, she would promptly produce milk and hop in the box to help her daughters and granddaughters to care for their new babies, she loved to clean them and feed them with no objection from Mum… they trusted her and were happy to pop out leaving Lizzie to baby sit.

In her last few months Lizzie started to loose some mobility but was still able to perform her funny little tap dance routine in front of us which meant she wanted food or a treat. She was a very spoilt girl and enjoyed the best of everything in life.

From the day we had her, Lizzie slept at the end of our bed... losing her was devastating, she has left a massive hole in our lives. We loved her dearly and she will always be remembered as a very special dog. She was the kindest, gentlest dog anyone could wish to have shared their life with. We feel privileged to have enjoyed her company and to have been loved by her.

Lizzie lives on in our hearts and we have her wonderful offspring Maisie, India and their daughters Isobel and Asia who all remind us of their wonderful Mum and Grandma.

Sleep in peace our precious one.
